The first in a series of paintings inspired by the coast path of the West Penwith area west of St Ives, the dark sea, and the colours of the coast.
The series also reflects the colours and textures of some of the ancient rocks of this stretch of coast. Rich in texture, the work was painted in oil and pigments over an acrylic base layer, with cold wax and rock powders adding body to the paint mix. Expressive mark-making results in an aged patina.
On canvas and framed in a 'Studio Green' (Farrow & Ball) painted wood tray frame. Framed size 64 x 64 x 5 cm.
