Tectonic (I)

SOLD

This painting is the first in a series of five which seek to

capture the ancient textures and colours of the rocks of West Penwith.  They were inspired by the geological history

and the tectonic forces that shaped the geology, around 300 million years ago.

The burnt orange hues bring to mind the heat of the Cornish granite ‘batholith’

and also celebrate the copper and tin mining history of the region. Rich in

texture, the work was painted in oil and pigments, with cold wax and rock

powders adding body to the paint mix.   Mark-making

included scratching, scraping and gouging, resulting in an aged patina.

Unframed.
