West Lights the Way Home (II)

This work was inspired by the coast path of the West Penwith area west of St Ives, the dark sea, and the glorious colours of the coast.  It also reflects the colours and textures of some of the ancient rocks along this stretch of coast. I wanted the work to have a raw energy about  it.  Rich in texture, the work was painted in oil and pigments over an acrylic base layer, with cold wax and rock powders adding body to the paint mix.   Expressive mark-making results in an aged patina.

'West Lights the Way Home (II') forms a diptych with 'West Lights the Way Home (I)', and both work well separately as well as together.  Some of the images show them together. Each is available for purchase separately. 

Unframed on stretcher bars with the painting continuing around the edges.
