Tectonic (II)

£ 1,850.00

This painting is the second in a series of five which seek

to capture the ancient textures and colours of the rocks of West Penwith. They

were inspired by the geological history and the tectonic forces that shaped the

geology, around 300 million years ago. It is a dark painting in hues of very dark

grey, blue and green, with marks in orange, ochre and burnt umber colours, to

evoke the rocks and dark sea, as well as the more recent mining legacy. Rich in

texture, the work was painted in oil and pigments, with cold wax and rock

powders adding body to the paint mix.

Mark-making included scratching, scraping and gouging, resulting in an

aged patina.

Unframed.
