Tectonic (IV)

£ 1,050.00

This painting seeks to capture the ancient textures and colours of the rocks of West Penwith, inspired by their geological history and the tectonic forces that were key in their evolution. Combining dark areas in hues of very dark grey, blue and green, with areas of orange, ochre and burnt umber colours, alongside lighter blues, it evokes the history of tectonic forces that shaped Cornwall's geology, its more recent mining legacy and the sea. Rich in texture, the work was painted in oil and pigments, with cold wax and rock powders adding body to the paint mix. Mark-making included scratching, scraping and gouging, resulting in an aged patina.

As all the works in the 'Tectonic’ series are the same height, they will work well as diptych and triptych arrangements as well as singly.

Unframed.
